about

Red Venice was my first musical venture, 'Bad 'e' Chill Out Anthems Vol.1' was a homage to Throbbing Gristles concept of '20 Jazz Funk Greats'. My label at the time was called Red Venice Presents... and this album was professionally produced at 500 copies. Two were sold to friends and 498 resided in my parents garage, still plastic sealed and boxed, for ten years. I had thought them destroyed to clear space in said garage but no, they were set aside in pristine condition. This is the first time they are in digital format for download. I have only recently listened to this album again and it does make me laugh in places. There are no synths being used, as I had no clue how to use one. But I did have a copy of Audition, which wasn't owned by Adobe at the time and i beleive had a different name? it escapes me. I recorded my guitar through zoom 506 and zoom 505 effects pedals and layed each guitar with higher pitched versions of the same guitar samples. I did use a DAW for the cheesy four to the floor drums, notice there is no variation, it is actually a 4/4 beat and nothing else throughout. The DAW was called Fruity Loops, which evolved into FL Studio years later, the DAW had no VST capabilities that I can recall and even if it did I had no idea how to use them. There were only track reverb and delay, which were two knobs and easy to use. I need to tip the hat to the album I suppose, there are two or three noise tracks in there such as 'Rose Cope' and 'Sleeper', which are proto-'the sound I use now'. The album took three years of fucking around with my guitar effects pedal plugged into a recording hardware addon for the pc, which I never screwed in, running on Windows XP and dodgy software for the recording device that only recognised Windows 95 os. Piecing the album, together took a week. All the tracks have guitar in there somewhere, cannot remember the make or model but do remember it was purchased from Argos, ha! It did make me learn that it isn't the technical ablity you have on the guitar but the effects pedal thats masks your shit and makes it sound halfway listenable.
